A little gem for one of Birmingham's well-to-do suburbs. Malabar is a "contemporary" Indian restaurant but it has the sense to keep all its options covered when it comes to the traditional stuff too.

So in nicely modern surroundings. it sets out its stall - an appealing mix of authenticity and aspiration - very attractively indeed.

The food is great. with a palpable feeling of effort and quality. But the best thing - and here I think they must be doing battle with their unlicensed Indian competitors - is a wine list which shows scarcely any mark-up at all. There's no need to bring your own with prices as low as these.
