Country GirlIt may be best known these days as the birthplace of Trudie Styler (aka Mrs Sting) but Stoke Prior near Bromsgrove was once better known as a useful spot on the canal network. You can still hire boats near here. It's a tiny rural spot but it's worth the trip - and many make it - for the Country Girl pub. which offers very good food. The place has been nicely done up (in that user-friendly modern rustic way of chunky wood and chocolate leather sofas) and its warm. bustling atmosphere make it very inviting. Crowds turn up - especially at weekends - to sample the direct. appealing menu. which is packed with straightforward pub favourites (lamb shank. calves liver) and more ambitious fare (blade of beef. poached john dory perhaps). A particular claim to fame is the Country Girl's push for healthy eating. Low-salt and good-for-cholesterol dishes are marked as such. See the original Birmingham Post review in the archive section.
