A separate fine dining restaurant within a pub may sound a little odd but actually Steve Love is doing the same thing over at the College Arms near Stratford.

Here it's a chance for owner Pat McDonald to keep his upmarket hand in following the closure of Paris in Birmingham.

The carte is restricted to a six-course tasting menu at £40 a head with generally two options at each level.

There's some good stuff here but also a few weaker points which can make the venture look a bit overpriced. Ambitious. though. and very smart.
