 This listed building nestling at the foot of the Clent Hills has one huge advantage in the world of pub grub - it is run by top chef Roger Narbett. who is in charge of this highly-successful venture with capable wife Jo. (They also have the Chequers at Cutnall Green near Droitwich).

 The emphasis is on modern. satisfying fare that wouldn't be out of place in a swish little bistro - from grilled Scottish rib-eye steak with chips to Cornish seafood fishcakes with prawns to farmhouse terrines.

 The pubby look has been carefully preserved. with the various little rooms still intact. having escaped the late 20th century developers' hatchet job that ruined so many traditional inns.

 There is also a sizeable garden with plenty of tables for drinking and dining al fresco. It's always busy and booking is always advisable.
