A little corner of Leamington Spa that is forever France ... Oscar's is a little gem of a place. a bistro that easily bears comparison with many of the French originals it is based on.

The menu is kept short. simple and classic - country pate or perhaps fishcakes among the starters. garlic pot-roasted lamb. coq au vin or some fine steaks among the mains (the venture is owned by the catering butchers par excellence Aubrey Allen. who also have a fine deli nearby. so expect superb meat).

These rustic and appealing dishes are cooked well and prices are eminently sensible - two courses cost £16 at dinner and £11 at lunch.

There's also a very popular 'auberge' night on Tuesdays where a single-choice three-course meal is only £12.50.
