The Lion and Pheasant, Shrewsbury Hotel and Restaruant has added a new dimension to the dining-out offering of Shropshire's capital town.
Recently awarded AA two-rosette status, the Lion and Pheasant provides a range of dining choices to suit every occasion; the ground floor informal 'inglenook' bar, the split-level first floor restaurant, and Shrewsbury's most elegant private dining venue - the Georgian 'Crystal Room'. In addition, the hotel's sunny garden provides an al-fresco option during the summer months.
Head chef Alan Dann's creative use of seasonal, and locally sourced produce, is as evident in his timeless classics - duck breast, striplion steak and sea bass - as it is in his innovative signature dishes - like hot bocconcini mozzarella with provencal salsa, roasted scallops on wilted leeks with red pepper sauce, and his unique dark chocolate fondant with a white chocolate saffron sauce.
For special events in the setting of the hotel's glamorous 'Crystal Room' - such as weddings, christenings, birthdays, conferences, new-year and private dinners - Alan presents his delicious four-course table-d'ote menus, specially designed around the occasion, and guests' personal preferences.
The lion + pheasant has an excellent cellar of wines to suit all pockets and tastes, many supplied by the north of England's leading wine merchant Tanners, whose beautiful eighteenth century cellars are but a stone's throw from the hotel on Wyle Cop. As an independent free-house, the hotel also serves a selection of Shropshire real ales and specialist beers.
