Manor Hotel

 A lovely Georgian hotel with a rather swanky. be-swagged dining room. the Manor Hotel boasts Peter Griffiths as its head chef - the head of the British Culinary Federation. no less. and a leading figure in the trade.

 The food is pretty formal. as you might expect. but there are contemporary flavours mixed in with the luxury ingredients. Some superb scallops with black pudding. pea puree and port sauce hit the right note. as did a breats of duck with apple fondant. caramelised endive and cassis sauce.

 Not all dishes were quite such barnstormers. notably a rather bland souffle. but generally the Manor hits a solid. reliable note and is a local favourite for special occasion dining.
