Discount dining now expected

One in four diners will visit a restaurant only if it is offering a discount!

According to research conducted by moneysupermarket.com, the credit crunch has led to fewer people eating out in the past 12 months,  which has forced restaurants to offer deals to entice diners to their tables.

High earners such as bankers and lawyers have reduced the number of long lunches by as much as 70 per cent and some 40 per cent of Britons use a voucher at least once a month. The most popular voucher on Moneysupermarket.com is for Pizza Express.

Midlands based discount dining club owner, James Day of Gourmet-Life.co.uk comments "We are finding that many of our new customers are joining Gourmet-Life as they still want to dine out, at good restaurants, but need to save money off the bill, due to their own budgets being squeezed, so our 20% savings are a real help to encourage them to dine out"

Restaurants have benefited from joining Gourmet Life as they have managed to maintain their regulars trade, where others have lost out as their own regulars are seeking out deals elsewhere. James added "We find that our members are going to restaurants that have perhaps looked after them over the recent years with good service and quality produce on the menus, and now with the added bonus of their membership discount, they are able to return."
