Shiny. sleek and modern. the Metro bar is slap bang in the middle of Birmingham's suits quarter and a regular haunt for Birmingham's professional and commercial classes.

Its popularity is long-lived and understandable. With its quality food (it has a Michelin Bib Gourmand) and vibrant. lively atmosphere. the Metro feels like the place to be.

It's busy most of the time with a menu that gets an overhaul every four months. The dishes suggest a riot of flavours but the balancing act is a precision one with few things out of kilter. Simple tastes but well-blended. it makes for lively eating . Birmingham's ever-popular Metro now has this baby sibling in downtown. affluent Solihull.

The style is just as smart as you'd expect - all leather sofas and oak floors with a big curved bar dominating the room.

The food is full of bright flavours - both classical (prawn cocktail. cottage pie. steak and chips) and modern bistro (salads. duck confit. ham hock terrine). Generally very well done all of it. and a pleasantly buzzy and chic atmosphere to boot.
