Rose and CrownThe Rose and Crown. a bustling gastro pub in the heart of this historic town. has a lot to offer. It's buzzy and lively. often packed to the gills. and has great contemporary easy-eating food. In its trendy stripped-floor and chunky tables interior. there are lots of lively ideas which border on the whimsical. There are "deli boards" on offer (as nibbles. a starter or to share). to be stacked up from a choice of cheese. charcuterie. antipasti and fish. You can get coffee. cakes and bacon sarnies to take away if you're pushed for time. And coffees come with a little bowl of Smarties rather than mint chocolates. It's all very youthful and fun. and fast-moving. efficient staff mean you don't feel neglected despite the place's popularity. Of course. what keeps people coming back is the quality of the hearty. crowd-pleasing food. There are great home-made faggots with mushy peas. onion gravy and chips or mash. excellent quality ribeye steaks. confit duck. fishcakes et al - typical gastro pub fare and done very well.
