One of Michelin's newly-starred restaurants. 5 North Street is an absolute gem.
Winchcombe is a pretty village - and Sudeley Castle is just round the corner - but it doesn't get overrun with tourists like so many Cotswold places.
The restaurant is a cosy place. nicely done out and all ancient beams and dark wood tables and as for the food - well. it's just superb.
Chef-owner Marcus Ashenford used to run the kitchen at Chavignol at the Old Mill in Shipston-on-Stour so his pedigree is beyond doubt.
Here. doing his own thing with wife Kate running front of house. he concentrates on straightforward. deeply-flavoursome dishes which are confident and deceptively sophisticated. yet with nothing over-complicated or too cheffy.
A truffle risotto was sheer heaven. as were a savoy cabbage parcel of Chinese-style veg and braised pig's cheek. served with parsley mash and onion and sage confit.
Great vegetarian choice and sensible prices for the quality.
